Installation Guide Gimp 2.7.1 on Ubuntu
If you do not resist to try Gimp interface integrated in a single window, you can try installing the development version. Although version 2.8 will be released in December, and you can start testing some new features.

Add the repository development and reinstall gimp normally.
$ Sudo apt-add-repository ppa: matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn
$ Sudo apt-get update & & sudo apt-get install gimp
