Gimp and Inkscape plugins to publish directly to deviantart

Finally someone is concerned about the integration of our favorite applications Deviantart for design with free software. With these plugins you can publish directly to our work to this famous social network.

The installation method I explain in this post is only compatible for versions 11.04, 10.10 and 10.04 of Ubuntu.

You must open a terminal, add the repository and install the necessary packages.

$ Sudo apt-add-repository ppa: doctormo / deviantart-plugins

$ Sudo apt-get update

$ Sudo apt-get install gimp-plugin-dastash inkscape-extension-dastash

And ready. If you have Gimp or Inkscape open is recommended to restart.

How to use them?

In Gimp, select Menu - Picture - Publish a - Deviantart

In Inkscape, Menu Extensions-Publish a - Deviantart

Note: I did tests on Ubuntu 10.10 and the Inkscape version had some problems, please report your experiences with these plugins.

Art tutorial inkscape polygons

Thanks to the good supply of Alejandro Castillo , we have a new tutorial on how to create amazing art from the duplication of polygons in inkscape.

The steps are well explained, and just need to follow to get our own geometric designs. I never tire of thanking the great support of the community that is currently taking Cursorlibre :)

You can see the tutorial at the link below.

The correct way to create and install your own filters for Inkscape

First of all I want to thank you all for your excellent contributions that allow other users life easier :)

As you have noticed the last post had to do with pre-filters for inkscape, which really expands the capabilities of the application. If you read those entries could see that there are two methods for installing them. But thanks to the excellent contribution of Mardigann we can see what is the correct way that meets the standards required for inkscape filters can be included in the main menu.

The complete guide can be viewed at the following link

Call screening, glare and cartoons for inkscape

In continuity with the previous post I share these packs of filters that are produced by the same author but had overlooked. It includes a collection specifically for glare or lighting effects and a collection for flames, smoke and particles, personally I love these.

To use, you must import the svg file in our work area, then select the object to which you want to filter. Go to the top menu of filters and filter editor finally there appear and can be activated with the checks you want.

UPDATE: Please see this guide

Package inkscape surface filters

As is known inkscape strong feature is the manipulation of vectors and not really handling bits or texture maps. But one can always do another trick to achieve effects of texture and relief in our vectors.

Inkscape has a number of predefined filters that allow us to create different textures, there are some who are great but other than the truth I have no idea who would use :-P However, in reality there is freedom to add new ones.

This filter package is created by irzun.deviantart.com and truth that are most that can be very useful, possibly create a tutorial for creating a graphic with textures created from these filters.

They can be downloaded at the following link.

The author explains that to Inkscape 0.47 version of the installation steps is to copy and paste the contents of the downloaded file into "Inkscape / share / filters".

I use version 0.48 and I found a folder "Inkscape" or. "Inkscape" in my home so I had to paste the contents in "/ usr / share / inkscape / filters /", note that to paste this content folder requires root permissions. If you're running Ubuntu in a terminal "sudo nautilus" to open a file browser with root permissions, it would help a lot. :)

UPDATE: Gez tells us that the configuration files in the folder inkscape, are in .config / inkscape from 0.48. Thanks for the input

Finally there is only open inkscape -> create any shape and select -> go to Filter menu -> Surface -> Choose the one you want.

Templates CD covers in svg

For those who once had to use a ruler and measure the diameter of a CD to design a cover, here is a good practical solution.

In this post I make available a collection of 12 different templates for designing both the exterior of a box of CD or DVD and the inner circumference that covers the disc.

Most of these templates are released by Kevin Deldycke under Creative Commons 2.5

Creating games in inkscape Dots

Who has not played these games as a child, joining each point to form a common figure was an animal or any object. The interesting thing is that the magazine Planetix published in its edition number 5 a tutorial on how to design these games making a few simple steps in inkscape, I assure you will be surprised how easy it is.

At the end of the tutorial will also take the opportunity to show some results of applying filters, I advise a lot download the magazine to see Adro related topics, Wikipedia, and multimedia applications.
